FaDSS is a voluntary program for participants
of the Family Investment Program (FIP). Participants are referred
to FaDSS from PROMISE JOBS, DHS and other community partners. The
program is available in each of the following counties: Buena Vista,
Emmet, Hamilton, Humboldt, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Webster and Wright.
Highly trained Certified Family Development Specialist help area
families move toward individual growth, job retention and economic
stability. Families in FaDSS can improve their job skills, budgeting
skills, the safety of their homes and children, and learn to access
community activities and resources. Certified Family development
Specialists offer home visits to support families. Participants
may also take in programs involving parent support, enrichment classes,
holiday parties and achievement awards. The program is unique in
that, in addition to established program goals, families set their
own goals and decide how much and how quickly they want to improve
their lives.
