Lifetime Dads
Lifetime Dads is a fatherhood initiative to meet the needs of fathers in the Upper Des Moines service area. The mission of Lifetime Dads is to provide education and support to fathers so that they can become lifetime dads. The counties Lifetime Dads serves are Osceola, Dickinson, Emmet, O’Brien, Clay, Palo Alto, Buena Vista, Pocahontas, Humboldt, Wright, Webster, and Hamilton.
Programming offered by the Lifetime Dads program includes 24/7 Dads, Welcome to Dadhood-Doing the Dad thing and Dr. Dads.
24/7 Dads is a weekly program empowering males to become more involved, responsible, and committed in their role as a father-figure. The program focuses on improving a father’s self-awareness, caring for self, fathering skills, parenting skills, and relationship skills. The program covers the universal aspects of fatherhood so that men of all cultures, races, religions, and backgrounds can benefit.
Welcome to Dadhood-Doing the Dad thing is a prenatal program for expecting fathers providing information and instruction to enhance their child’s prenatal development by focusing on building the bond between Dad and child prenatal through the first few months of life.
Dr. Dads teaches fathers basic health and safety information to care for infants and toddlers to help teach fathers the unique role they play in the health and safety of their children.
Lifetime Dads will work with fathers individually; however, the ultimate goal will be to encourage all dads to participate in a group setting. Lifetime Dads believes that the most productive environment for dads is one where they can share their experiences together.
Lifetime Dads services are available to anyone who takes on a fatherly role of a child 0-10 or is expecting to. Father figures with children outside the age range will not be denied service.
All Lifetime Dads programs are voluntary. Services are available to all eligible persons regardless of race, age, gender, disability or religion. There is currently no cost to participate and free child care is provided at most Lifetime Dads groups.
