In their eight-county service area, Maternal/Child
Health (MCH) works directly with various public and private providers
to make quality health care easily accessible to area women and
children. MCH realizes that the process of getting to doctor appointments
and other checkups, monitoring a child's health progress and completing
all the required paperwork can be overwhelming for today's busy
parents. The program accommodates parents by offering assistance
in accessing medical and dental checkups, immunization, information
about growth, diet and development and regular vision and hearing
information at WIC clinics, Child Development Centers and Head Start
facilities. A child health consultant is available to childcare
providers and centers to contact for health information and resources;
and MCH distributes and implements health and safety programs to
public and private childcare centers.
Because prenatal and postpartum care are essential to the growth
and development of babies, MCH offers health education and counseling.
MCH will also cover the cost of childbirth classes for first time
mothers-to-be as well as help pregnant women access prenatal care.
Program staff continues to offer community-based care and gap-filling
services to improve healthcare options and services in out communities.
