Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc. (UDMO) is a 501(c)3 private non-profit Community Action Agency.
We depend on donations to provide quality services to low-income individuals and families in our 12-County service area. With gifts of time spent volunteering, donated items and food, and dollars, your generosity directly helps people who live in your community and are facing the challenges of poverty and may have a tax benefit to you.
UDMO continues to be committed to our vision of “helping to build stronger communities by addressing the effects of poverty on individuals and families.” It takes more than our dedicated and compassionate staff to effect the change- it really does “take a village” to give hope and a strong helping hand to a neighbor who is in crisis.
We know that we achieve better outcomes for our clients with the help and support of community members. Every step we take is lifted a little higher by the caring hearts of all of our neighbors and the successes of yours.
HOW CAN I HELP? UDMO offers many different opportunities for giving. We invite you to partner with us!
DONATE YOUR TIME- VOLUNTEER!
Our volunteers play a significant important role in expanding our mission through the gifts of good, services, and most importantly, their time. We have many opportunities for volunteering, through advocacy, direct interaction with families, events and projects, assisting our Staff in our Outreach Centers and Food Pantries, and other forms of service.
If you would like to volunteer, please contact your County’s Outreach Center or call us at 1-800-245-6151. For Outreach Center locations, visit our Outreach Services page.
Another very important way to help low-income families is by raising awareness in the community. We encourage you to write your politicians about poverty in our community. Another option is to invite a representative of the Community Action Agency to speak to your organization.
We accept a wide variety of donations of food, goods, personal items and household items. In turn, we offer these items to low-income individuals free of charge. We also welcome donations of new school supplies and backpacks. Please contact your County Outreach Center prior to dropping off your donations, especially if bringing furniture, office equipment or large quantity donations. For YOUR County Outreach Center location, visit our Outreach Services page.
Monetary donations are equally vital to empowering UDMO to change the lives of families challenged by poverty.
Small donations can give more children a reason to smile, teach them how to work together, or provide them with the proper nutrition to keep them healthy. It can provide a family with the skills they need to obtain a better job, offer a family a healthy meal, or help victims of abuse fight their way back to living a better life.
You can help UDMO strengthen low-income individuals and families through your gift. Please contact Executive Director Jamey Whitney, ext. 125 if you would like to make a donation or have a question about giving. You may also donate by mailing or hand-delivering your check to any of our 12 Outreach Centers.
