Volunteers are a vital part of communities throughout the nation. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 62.6 million people volunteered at least once through an organization between September 2014 through September 2015, a decline of 0.4% from the year prior. In the world of community action, volunteers often step in to fill gaps caused by an increased demand for services and diminished staff and financial resources.
We may see volunteers serving on boards, providing extra support to staff in outreach centers or Head Start classrooms, participating in fundraising efforts, providing supplies and donations, or participating in unique community-based programming. The positive impact of volunteer support is evident everywhere in our organization.
On average, community action agencies across the nation have more than 800 volunteers per year. During the 2012 fiscal year, 2,634 volunteers donated 107,723 hours to various UDMO projects, programs and services. For more information about the positive impact our programs and services have on your community, take a look at our 2012 Annual Report.
If you would like to partner with us by volunteering, contact UDMO's central office at (800) 245-6151 or visit any of our program or Outreach Service web pages for a specific program contact. We’ll be glad to hear from you!
