Maternal Infant Early Childhood Home Visiting Program (MIECHV)
The Maternal Infant Early Childhood Home Visitation (MIECHV) was created by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. The MIECHV program as a Parents as Teachers (PAT) affiliate utilizes its evidence-based model.
Families can enroll prenatally and until the child is 3-months of age. After enrollment, families may remain enrolled until the child is 5-years of age. MIECHV provides intensive home visitation services to new and expectant families to strengthen the parent/child relationship, and encourage healthy child growth and development. To nurture parents in their role as the child's first teacher and prevent child abuse and neglect.
Home visitation and group parent meetings utilize the Parents as Teachers Curriculum.
The MIECHV program seeks to:
Improve maternal and newborn health
Boost understanding of child development and milestones and parenting concerns
Home safety to prevent child injuries, abuse, neglect, or maltreatment, and emergency department visits
Improve school readiness and achievement
Improve family economic self-sufficiency; budgeting, financial issues, continued education, relationships, and/or employment
Assists with coordination and referrals for other community resources and supports
